New Faculty Orientation: LAU Teaching Culture Session

About:

To kick off the semester, the Center for Innovative Learning hosted two online orientation sessions. These sessions were designed primarily for new faculty, while remaining open to all instructors who wished to refresh their knowledge or reconnect with LAU’s teaching and learning environment.

Session 2: LAU Teaching Culture focused on key syllabus elements and LAU’s AI policies. Faculty were encouraged to ask teaching-related questions they have always wondered about, even the tricky ones.

New Faculty Orientation: Technical Orientation Session

About:

To kick off the semester, the Center for Innovative Learning hosted two online orientation sessions. These sessions were designed primarily for new faculty, while remaining open to all instructors who wished to refresh their knowledge or reconnect with LAU’s teaching and learning environment.

Session 1: Technical Orientation focused on familiarizing faculty with essential LAU systems, including Banner, Starfish, and Blackboard, providing a practical overview to support teaching and academic workflows.

Designing Assessments that Drive Learning

About:

The Center for Innovative Learning hosted an engaging in-person session titled “Designing Assessments that Drive Learning” led by its Instructional Designer, Mrs. Sara Hassoun. The session was held on both the Beirut and Byblos campuses, bringing together faculty members and educators for a dynamic exploration of how well-designed assessments can enhance student learning.

The session covered key topics, including:

Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, participants reflected on how thoughtful assessment design can be a powerful driver of student success.

New Faculty Orientation - Methods of Effective Instruction

About:

As part of the New Faculty Orientation Program, the CIL hosted a workshop titled “Methods of Effective Instruction.” This interactive session introduced practical strategies and fresh approaches to enrich teaching and engage students more effectively. Although designed with new faculty in mind, the workshop was open to all faculty members.

The sessions were led by Dr. Rayya Younes, Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education, and were offered on both campuses.

About:

The Center for Innovative Learning hosted an online session on assessment, led by Dr. Mona Majdalani. This session was designed for new faculty and highly recommended for others looking to enhance their skills in assessing learners.

The event covered key strategies and best practices for effective assessment in the classroom. It provided an opportunity for faculty to learn valuable techniques to improve their assessment methods and better support their students’ learning journeys.

Active Learning Strategies - New Faculty Orientation

About:

The Center for Innovative Learning was pleased to hold a hands-on workshop focused on engaging students through active learning techniques.

This was part of a series of professional development sessions organized by CIL for new faculty members teaching on Beirut and Byblos campuses. Additionally, all faculty members were welcome to attend and refresh their knowledge.

Tips and Tricks for Course Design and Management

In that series of three hands-on workshops held across two days, faculty members learned about what made a good learning outcome, the significance of student assessment, and how to engage students through active learning.

New Faculty Technical Orientation

About:

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the new faculty members to the essential LAU systems, such as Blackboard, Panopto, Starfish, and Banner.

Additionally, it was designed to provide an opportunity for the new faculty members to ask any questions they may have about teaching and learning at LAU.

New Faculty Orientation

The Office of the Provost and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) invite you to the New Faculty Orientation to introduce all new faculty to the Lebanese American University. 

 

Blackboard e-learn

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of Blackboard e-Learn. It covers the following topics: definition of CMS, the use of Blackboard for teaching, learning and assessment.

Using the Smart classroom

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of the use of Smart classrooms. It covers the following topics: Operation of a smart classroom, the features of the touch screen and the do’s and don’ts of operating a smart classroom.

Understanding Your Benefits

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of university benefits relative to status.  It covers the following topics: Medical Insurance coverage, children tuition, leaves (maternity, sick, etc.)

Financial Aid/Student Employment

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of criteria for FA versus Employment. It covers the following topics: Requesting an FA vs student employee, time allocation, and expectations.

CAAP Interpretation

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of CAAP document. It covers the following topics: What is CAAP, Access CAAP and understand the elements of CAAP.

Student Code of Conduct

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of the Student Code of Conduct. It covers the following topics: Students rights and responsibilities towards the university, violations, disciplinary proceedings, sanctions and appeals.

Portfolio preparation (Boyer’s)

About:

This workshop provides participants with a general overview of the promotion portfolio.  It covers the following topics: What constitutes a promotion portfolio, the different sections of a portfolio, and possible evidence provision.
